Streets of Nebraska City

I have nothing against Nebraska City - but it's always struck me how the main streets of that town - halfway between Omaha and KC - just dead-end at the river. Typical river-town, but it feels hemmed in and could be someone's trap. So this is a song about someone who feels that way. No doubt taken (in part) from growing up in small places, yearning for more. A more mature person factors in the fear of change, too.

The streets of Nebraska City will not deliver me
I’m at the end of the road on the streets of this City

On the beautiful streets of Nebraska City

To get away from trouble I wound up hiding here
Six months at the most I said, now it’s been ten years
Over the Missouri is a great big interstate
Right down to Kansas City - but that’s a road that I might never take

But the real man that I am failed to satisfy
